NIYAH PRATT, COMPANY MEMBER(SHE/HER)

Niyah, originally from Seattle, Washington, earned a BFA in Choreography and Performance and a Bachelor of Science in Urban Affairs from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). While at UNLV, under the direction of Louis Kavouras, she had the opportunity to work with choreographers including Christopher Huggins, John Lehrer, Alex Yonkovich, Pip Schultz, and Jason Hortin. Niyah has performed nationally and internationally, including in the University Partners Showcase, where she performed an original Erick Hawkins work in New York; the Akropoditi Dance Festival in Syros, Greece; the Falling in Dance Festival in New York; and the LINK Dance Festival in Salt Lake City, Utah, with SALT Dance Company.Since joining Houston Contemporary, Niyah has performed at the International Association of Blacks in Dance Festival in Atlanta, the 254 Dance Festival in Waco, and Spring to Dance in St. Louis. She has also performed works by Yoshito Sakuraba, Robbie Moore, Brandon Coleman, Norbert De La Cruz III, Natasha Adorlee, Tamisha Guy, Joshua Peugh, and Yue Yin.Entering her fourth season with Houston Contemporary, Niyah is excited to continue expanding her artistry, deepening her practice, and growing as a performer and artist.
